Hawkesbury Race Club’s stand-alone Saturday meeting is shaping up to be the strongest in the club’s history, chief executive Brian Fletcher says.
The Sydney provincial race club received a record 174 entries across the eight races on Saturday, including 27 fillies and mares for the Darley Crown and 23 three-year-olds in the Hawkesbury Guineas.
There are 16 nominations for the Listed Rowley Mile with the Chris Waller-trained Foreteller and Gai Waterhouse’s Fast Clip heading the weights.
As long as the weather holds it should be “one heck of a race day”, said Fletcher.
“We’ve never had better noms than this,” he said.
“This is outstanding, it’s got to be near capacity fields in every race.
“It should be terrific racing.”
Leading trainer Peter Snowden has nominated 19 runners for the meeting, including five in the $150,000 Listed Darley Crown.
Fletcher said there would be plenty of quality racing to keep punters entertained throughout the day.
“The good thing about it is there’s quality everywhere,” he said.
“All the leading trainers are here.
“We’ve got horses from Melbourne and Brisbane as well.”
He said the club was hoping for around 12,000 racegoers to attend the meeting.
Off track, there will be a $12,000 prize for the best-dressed couple and other competitions and rewards throughout the day.
